This litter of four adorable kittens were born to a feral mama in a small town in NE Iowa with an enforcement code officer who told the lady who has been caring for the ferals around her place that she needs to 'get rid of the cats' or he will do it for her. He is known to inhumanely 'get rid of animals' in their community, so this lady was frantically looking for someone to at least take this litter of kittens before something happened to them. They were not feral as she has been handling them and they had been born in her garage. Born right around 9/11/12, WPR took them at about 8 weeks and got them to the vet for their first checkup, parasite treatment and vaccinations on 11/6. One of the kittens tested negative for FeLK/FIV, so the littermates should be as well.
The four kittens in this litter are Ragu, Alfredo, He-Will and She-Can. Ragu and Alfredo are purr-fectly healthy, but He-Can and She-Will will probably be 'special needs' kitties. On Sunday Nov. 4th before the came to WPR, He-Can was walking funny when the gal got home from work so she took him to her vet on Monday, where they thought perhaps he'd had some kind of a trauma happen to him, so they put him on Prednizone to ease any swelling. During their visit the next day at our vet office, the little runt of the litter, She-Will, displayed some symptoms of a condition known as "Cerebellar Hypoplasia'; our vet thinks that ultimately it may come to be that this is what He-Can may have as well. This condition is also known as 'spastic cat syndrome' or 'wobbly cat syndrome' and cat the cat with cerebellar hypoplasia is abnormal from birth, although it may not be clear that something is wrong until the kitten is toddling around with some coordination. The cat with this disease clearly has balance issues: he walks with his legs widely placed for fear of falling, and places his feat clumsily. He often leans against walls for support. Sitting still he may look like a fairly normal cat, but once focused on a toy, food bowl or friendly hand, tremors begin getting more wobbly as concentration becomes more intense. Still, despite the obvious impairment, cats with this condition are happy, able to feed themselves and use a litter box, and are felt to have a good life quality. All four of these kittens are adorable and playful and extremely sweet, despite the possible condition the two smallest ones may end up having.
Kittens are always best adopted in pairs as they can be quite rambunctious and need another feline to take out all that kitten aggressiveness and shennanigans on - better it be with one of their own kind than with their new family! Plus it gives them a lifelong snuggle buddy when their humans are gone, and also that lifelong playmate instead of bugging their family with kittyrips in the middle of the night! If you have room in your heart, home and budget, please consider adopting TWO kittens and save FOUR lives... the two you adopt and the other two we can rescue because now we have room! "Until there are none, please adopt one; So they aren't blue, why not adopt two?" (author unknown)
He-Will... Gray / Black Tabby shorthair male; B'Day approx. 9/11/12
He-Will has developed wobbly legs, perhaps from a slight trauma but it may be that he has Cerebellar Hypoplasia and be a special needs kitty when grown. But the 'SPECIAL' part is that he just may be a little ' different' than other kitties, but still lead a happy-go-lucky and good quality life despite a slight disability to walk correctly! Right now he is quick to purr, loves to snuggle, and despite the fact that he has trouble walking, he doesn't realize that until it is too late... he tries to do everything a normal kitten would do and he ends up falling over a bit or sliding instead. But still, he TRIES, and he is determined! That's why believe HE-WILL will probably have the WILL POWER do everything he can to be a normal kitty - and be very determined! He is just adorable
